It’s as if Intel were gearing up to fight a processor with an on-chip memory controller or something, innit? Intel is also quick to point out that PAT happens internally in the memory controller, while external memory interfaces run according to their specifications. The chip is produced using nanometre technologies. The Intel that is today releasing the P is very different from the Intel that we remembered forcing Rambus DRAM on the market in the days of the chipset. Just over a week ago, a Canterwood sample platform arrived at Damage Labs, ready for testing. The P chipset marks a few milestones for Intel; for starters, it depicts Intel as a company that does listen to the needs and requests of their customers – mainly in its support for DDR memory technology.

The O875p brings a whole range of enhancements to the Pentium 4 platform, so I’d better bust out the bullet points to be sure I cover them all. At least the Canterwood Northbridge has only passive cooling on the Intel Reference board.

Generally, the selection process for the Canterwood and Springdale chipsets is made based on “Speed Binning,” as it is already known in the fabrication process chpiset CPUs. Here’s my best guess about what’s happening. Gigabit Ethernet is slowly becoming the new standard for Ethernet. And although the launch of the mainstream Springdale chipset is still a few weeks away, we’re finally able to tell you all there is to know about the successor to the aging E chipset; what was once known as Canterwood, is now publicly available as the Intel P chipset.
Intel P (Canterwood) Chipset – The New Flagship
Our P test platform has a large passive heat sink on the MCH chip. Read through the reame. Customize The Tech Report The P will cost a little more, and will be aimed at workstation users and enthusiasts. Just over a week ago, a Canterwood sample platform arrived at Damage Labs, ready for testing.

Intel claims that this is the last time they will be upping the number of USB ports supported as 8 seems to meet current and future demand. Naturally, we rounded up every competitor we could chippset put Canterwood through its paces.
Intel 875P (Canterwood) Chipset – The New Flagship
CS happens at the beginning of a typical memory access, so cutting the Chipste process by two cycles could lead to real-world reductions in memory access latency.
Subscribe to our Newsletter. We’ve been paitiently l875p the arrival of Intel’s dual-channel DDR chipsets ever since we first heard the names Springdale and Canterwood almost a year ago at Computex in Taipei.
Embracing DDR SDRAM is something we never thought we would see Intel do, especially considering their stance on the technology in the past, thus we were quite surprised when we heard of the possibility last year at Computex.
But then I’m an old fogey. On the installation window, click Next button to continue. The next milestone that’s set with the P is that Intel has finally released a chipset to push RDRAM out of their product lineup; not that there’s anything wrong with RDRAM these days, but the fact of the matter is that DDR is far more plentiful and thus much more attractive to end-users and resellers.

It’s nice of Krogoth to fill in for Chuckula over the holidays. As chippset know, AMD’s Athlon 64 didn’t quite make it out the door.
The Intel that is today releasing the P is very different from the Intel that we remembered forcing Rambus DRAM on the market l875p the days of the chipset.
Intel uses a small trick in order to squeeze an extra drop out of the MCH. The Taiwanese motherboard manufacturers couldn’t be happier that they finally have chipsets from Intel that are high in demand; it was quite an ordeal for them when Intel was forcing chipsets down their throats that no customer wanted to touch with a ten foot pole.
